New Delhi, Sept. 20 -- BJP workers staged a protest at the AAP office here on Sunday, demanding action against the party's MCD councillor from Trilokpuri over the suicide of a sanitation worker.
The Delhi BJP protesters, including Lok Sabha MP Yogender Chandoliya and state vice president Sunil Yadav, among others, demanded that AAP leaders expel councillor Vijay Kumar from the party.
They alleged that Deepak, a sanitation worker at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was driven to take his own life after facing financial issues due to the councillor.
Deepak's wife and minor daughter were accompanied by the BJP leaders during the protest.
The BJP, holding a protest outside the AAP Office, demanded dismissal of AAP Councillor Vijay Kumar and accused him of harassment and abetment of suicide.
The police detained the four protesters - Chandoliya, MLAs Ravi Kant Ujjainwal and Ravinder Negi, and Councillor Priyanka Gautam - at Tilak Marg police station. They were later released.
"Why are Arvind Kejriwal, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Kuldeep Kumar silent despite serious allegations against AAP Councillor Vijay Kumar of financially harassing an MCD sanitation worker and allegedly driving him to suicide?" Asked Chandoliya.
Along with workers from Mayur Vihar district, thousands of Delhi BJP state office-bearers and workers from the Scheduled Caste Morcha, Yuva Morcha, Kisan Morcha and Purvanchal Morcha participated in the protest, a Delhi BJP statement said.
Any form of injustice, exploitation or financial harassment of sanitation workers will not be tolerated, Chandoliya said and added that the BJP workers would continue their protest demanding an impartial investigation, action against those responsible and justice for the victim's family.
