New Delhi, Sept. 1 -- A modern, state-of-the-art museum will soon be developed at the Delhi Assembly to showcase the rich constitutional legacy and architectural heritage of the historic premises, Speaker Vijender Gupta said on Tuesday.
Addressing students at Delhi University, Gupta said the proposed museum would display rare historical artefacts, archival documents and interactive exhibits detailing the evolution of local governance.
By converting parts of the historic 1912 site into a curated public space, the Assembly Secretariat aims to provide visitors with a tangible connection to the foundational moments of the nation's legislative history, he said.
The speaker said the museum would serve as an experiential learning hub for the capital's youth and scholars.
"Giving citizens direct access to the seat of local democracy will foster a stronger sense of civic ownership and deepen public appreciation for India's democratic traditions," he said.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly building was constructed in 1912 and served as the temporary Central Secretariat and the seat of the Imperial Legislative Council after the capital of India was shifted from Calcutta to Delhi by the then British rulers.
