Kolkata, April 15 -- Emphasising Bengal's cultural heritage, communal harmony, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, on the occasion of Bengali New Year, extended 'Poila Boishakh' greetings to people and urged the electorate to give a befitting reply to the attempts by the "zamindars in Delhi" to snatch people's voting rights.

Urging to democratically take revenge against BJP's oppression, she said: "Our government has been running 105 schemes under which the people are getting benefits from birth to death. In future, our motto will be on the well-being of the people. The zamindars in Delhi has been carrying out torture on the people of Bengal. They are trying to divide the votes. It has been exploiting all its agencies to torture people.

Take revenge against this torture through democratic means." On the issue of deletion, she said: "My heart goes out to those whose names have been deleted. It is unacceptable that many voters will not be able to cast their votes while some of their family members will. As I went to the Supreme Court, we have saved 32 lakh names from being deleted. We hope that the names of many more will be added as the Tribunals are going on."

Taking to X, she added: "From the depths of my heart, I extend my warmest greetings of Bengali New Year to the people of all corners of the state. May this fresh dawn of a new era make each of your lives free from blemish. In this call of the new, may every soul brim with sanctity.

Just as our Bengal is the cradle of art and culture, so too is it the cradle of harmony among all religions. Some malevolent forces are leaving no stone unturned to tarnish this Bengal."

"Delhi's zamindars are usurping people's voting rights. Remember, we must give them a democratic answer. On this auspicious day today, let us collectively take a vow: breaking down the walls of all narrow-mindedness, we shall emerge united. May no divisive or authoritarian force ever sever the bonds of our eternal peace, traditional harmony, and goodwill.

In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee expressed her hope that the new year would herald a time free of blemishes for all. She praised Bengal's rich cultural legacy and underscored its role as an exemplar of communal harmony, while voicing concerns about 'malevolent forces' threatening this harmony.
