New Delhi, Nov. 6 -- The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will provide spaces and ponds free of cost for Chhath Puja celebrations on the Yamuna floodplain and in public parks and other areas under its jurisdiction, following a review of preparations by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Friday.

Sandhu chaired a meeting with the DDA Vice-Chairman and senior officials to assess the arrangements for the festival. The authority will clean and spruce up the designated sites and ponds before handing them over to devotees. Adequate lighting will also be ensured at the venues.

The allotment of spaces will be based on local requirements, past usage and public demand.

The L-G stressed the need for a transparent process, particularly keeping in mind devotees from Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, among other regions.

The DDA has also been directed to deploy designated staff to facilitate arrangements and assist devotees. It will coordinate with the concerned Delhi government departments and agencies, including the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), to provide necessary facilities.

The authority has further been asked to ensure that the sites are cleaned and restored after the conclusion of Chhath Puja.
