New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has set a target of freeing 46,486 square feet of usable office space and generating around Rs 39.33 lakh through the disposal of e-waste and other scrap during Special Campaign 6, being conducted from October 2 to 31.
As part of the preparatory phase from September 15 to 30, the department identified 18,741 e-files and 7,773 physical files for review. Cleaning and space-clearing activities were planned at 156 locations, along with the disposal of 1,694 e-waste items.
The campaign, being undertaken under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR&PG), covers DBT's scientific cadre units, divisions, autonomous institutions and public sector undertakings.
The department observed Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2 by organising an e-waste disposal drive at its headquarters in the CGO Complex. The drive was led by the DBT Secretary, who urged officers and staff to take individual responsibility for identifying and disposing of obsolete articles and unusable material at their workplaces and homes.
The Secretary said systematic disposal of outdated records and scrap could not only generate revenue for the exchequer but also create additional usable space in government offices.
