New Delhi, Sept. 20 -- The Delhi Police Cyber Cell has arrested three people, including two college students, for allegedly facilitating a cyber fraud in which a Tamil Nadu resident was cheated of Rs 97,708 on the pretext of providing benefits under a government scholarship scheme.
The accused were identified as Kunal Kumar, 23, a labourer from Sonia Vihar; Manish Kumar, 22, a college student from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh; and Jeet alias Nikhil, 22, a college student from Sabhapur, Delhi.
The case came to light following a complaint lodged at Cyber East police station. During the investigation, police analysed the financial trail and traced the cheated amount to an Axis Bank account in Kunal's name, which was allegedly being used as a mule account to receive and handle cyber fraud proceeds.
Police said around Rs 44,500 was withdrawn from the account, while part of the money was transferred to Manish. Further investigation allegedly revealed that Manish arranged mule accounts for Jeet for a 10 per cent commission and later withdrew money transferred from Kunal's account.
Three mobile phones and Rs 20,000 cash were recovered. A dedicated team led by SHO Inspector Pawan, under the supervision of ACP-OPS Amandeep Kaur, investigated the case. An FIR was registered under Sections 112(2) and 318(4) of the BNS.
