India, June 7 -- Students enrolled in the four-year undergraduate (UG) Honours programme under the University of Calcutta will no longer be prevented from entering the seventh semester because of poor results in earlier examinations. In a notification issued recently, the university said that students pursuing B.A, B.Sc. and B.Com. (Honours and Honours with Research) courses under the Curriculum and Credit Framework (CCF) -2022 curriculum would be allowed to attend seventh semester classes irrespective of their performance in previous semesters, provided they had appeared in all examinations from the first to the sixth semester. Such candidates must secure at least 30 per cent marks in every paper across the first six semesters, including the summer internship component. The university has retained stricter eligibility norms for students opting for the "Honours with Research" track. Besides obtaining a minimum of 30 per cent marks in all papers, candidates must achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 7.5 across the first six semesters to continue in the research stream. University officials said the requirement was intended to preserve academic standards in research-oriented higher education. Students whose CGPA is above 3.00 but falls short of the 7.5 benchmark have been given another opportunity. They will be allowed to reappear for fifth or sixth semester examinations within the stipulated period to improve their CGPA and qualify for the research programme.
