Kolkata, June 8 -- CPM youth leader Dipsita Dhar has approached the Calcutta High Court alleging that manipulated videos of her speeches and public appearances are being circulated on social media 'to misrepresent her views and tarnish her public image'.

The matter was mentioned before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya on Monday with a plea for urgent intervention. Dhar's counsel argued that edited clips attributed to her were being widely shared online, creating a distorted impression of her statements and potentially endangering her safety.

The court, however, declined to grant an urgent hearing and directed that the matter be filed and taken up in the normal course of proceedings.

According to the petition, the videos being circulated are not authentic recordings but selectively edited excerpts allegedly stripped of their original context before being uploaded across multiple social media platforms. Dhar has claimed that the altered clips have fuelled trolling campaigns and misinformation, causing reputational damage.

The plea seeks judicial directions for tracing the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the disputed content and securing the removal of the videos from digital platforms. It also calls for preservation of electronic records that could assist in identifying the source of the material. In addition, Dhar has sought an investigation into the origin and circulation network of the allegedly doctored videos and requested measures to prevent further dissemination of the content while the matter remains under consideration.
