
Kolkata, April 15 -- The Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Ajay Nand along with the District Election Officer (DEO), North Kolkata, Smita Pandey visited the Basanti Colony area in Ultadanga on Wednesday afternoon to boost the confidence of the voters and hear their grievances.
After interaction with the voters, the DEO told the media that they found no issues related to malpractice or activity to influence the
common people. According to sources, following the order from the Chief Secretary asking the District Magistrate (DM), CPs and Superintendents of Police (SP) to visit the booths where incidents of violence had taken place in the past elections, the visit of Nand and Pandey was arranged. A report has also been sought by the Nabanna on the visits which need to be submitted by April 16.
On Wednesday Nand said: "We are sending the message that people can cast their vote for anybody without any fear. We are sharing the numbers where people can inform us about their complaints. So far we have found nobody here having any issue."
Apart from Nand, the DEO, North Kolkata said: "We were here as a part of the confidence building measure. I have talked with the voters. The residents said that they did not face any problem while casting their votes during the previous elections.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order, Ajey Mukund Ranade directed to put more stress on naka checking to prevent smuggling of any kind of illegal object including unaccounted money. He also cautioned about any illegal use of government vehicles and police vehicles.
