Cooch Behar, Oct. 15 -- Former West Bengal minister Udayan Guha was remanded in police custody for three days by a Cooch Behar court on Thursday in connection with another case filed by Dinhata MLA Ajay Roy. The order came after police sought 14 days of custody for questioning.
According to court sources, Roy lodged a complaint against Guha at Dinhata police station on September 4, 2026, over an alleged incident in 2025. The complaint alleges that the MLA's house was attacked and vandalised. It also accuses Guha of using indecent language targeting the Rajbanshi community.
Guha was produced before the Additional District and Sessions Judge's court in Cooch Behar on Thursday. During the hearing, police sought his remand for 14 days. However, the court granted three days of police custody.
Guha's lawyer, Shibendranath Roy, said the case involved provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and argued that the complainant should have been informed and given an opportunity to be heard. He alleged that the required procedure had not been followed.
"Although the police had sought 14 days of custody, the court ordered three days of police custody after the hearing," the lawyer said. Guha had been lodged at the Balurghat Correctional Facility before being brought to the Cooch Behar court on Thursday.
