India, July 1 -- A woman and her pet dog were found dead while her husband, a homeopathy practitioner, was admitted to hospital in critical condition after the couple allegedly consumed pesticide at their residence in Delhi's Bindapur area, an official said on Tuesday. The husband told police that the couple had consumed the poison together. Police suspect they attempted suicide due to depression. Preliminary inquiry has also revealed that the couple's children live separately outside Delhi, officials said. Bindapur police station received information about the suicide attempt around 2.49 am, he said. Also Read - Fire destroys goods worth crores at electronics store On reaching the house in Indira Park, police found Jaspreet Kaur (55) dead, while her husband, Richhpal (56), was found in a semi-conscious state. Both were shifted to hospital, where Jaspreet was declared brought dead, while Richhpal was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for treatment. A pet dog belonging to the couple was also found dead inside the house. According to police, preliminary inquiry revealed that the couple allegedly consumed pesticide on June 29 around 11.30 am in an apparent attempt to end their lives. During questioning, Richhpal told police that both he and his wife had consumed the substance together, officials said. The exact circumstances leading to the incident are, however, still being verified. Police have inspected the crime scene and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem, while forensic teams collected samples from the house as part of the probe. Further inquiry is underway, police added.
