Kolkata, May 24 -- Kolkata Police on Sunday flagged as fake a viral social media post claiming that traffic movement was halted for nearly 45 minutes to facilitate Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's convoy.

Several posts circulating on social media on Saturday alleged that roads from SSKM Hospital to the airport, including VIP Road and EM Bypass, were blocked during office hours for the Chief Minister's movement and that even ambulances were stopped.

Police, however, termed the claims false and misleading. According to Kolkata Police, the traffic regulations imposed on Saturday were part of security arrangements for the movement of the United States Secretary of State and also due to ongoing Metro construction work at Chingrighata.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, Kolkata Police said the viral claims were "factually incorrect" and urged citizens not to believe or circulate unverified information on social media.
