New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- Kolkata Police arrested seven Andhra Pradesh residents from a flat in Hatiara under Eco Park police station for allegedly running a call centre to cheat people by posing as representatives of a MUDRA loan company.
Police seized keypad phones, smartphones and exercise books containing details of people, mainly from Andhra Pradesh.
The accused allegedly contacted victims and collected money in different bank accounts. The arrests followed a September 12 case at Narkeldanga P.S based on a Cyber Cell, ESD enquiry into the fraudulent procurement and use of SIM cards allegedly involving Tousif Telecom and others.
Police said forged documents were allegedly used to obtain SIM cards in different names, which were then collected by fraudsters for cyber offences. Taushif Alam was arrested on September 17, and his interrogation led police to the Hatiara flat. The seven were allegedly brought to Kolkata by Sundar alias Ali.
