India, Aug. 21 -- A 38-year-old Delhi Police head constable was arrested by Ghaziabad police on Wednesday night for allegedly abetting the suicide of his 37-year-old woman colleague, who was found hanging in a hotel room in Sahibabad on August 16. According to police, the woman, also a Delhi Police head constable, checked into the hotel alone at around 7.15pm on August 15. CCTV footage and hotel records showed the accused entering her room at around 10.03pm and leaving nearly 40 minutes later. Hotel staff found her hanging from a ceiling fan the following day. ACP Sahibabad Amit Saxena said the accused told police he had been with his wife on the evening of August 15 when the woman allegedly pressured him to meet her at the hotel. Police said the two had become friends after meeting at their workplace in Delhi. Both lived in Ghaziabad. The accused is married and has three children. Police said they belonged to different castes and that he allegedly refused to marry her. An FIR was registered on August 17 under Sections 108 and 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The woman's father alleged that she had told her mother on August 14 that the accused had been harassing her for a long time and had allegedly exploited her while claiming to be unmarried. Police found 33 hotel check-ins by the pair over the past year and are investigating further.
