
Cooch Behar, Sept. 30 -- A no-confidence motion was passed against Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad's Sahakari Sabhadhipati Abdul Jalil Ahmed on Wednesday, with all 20 members present at the meeting voting against him.
The no-confidence meeting was held at the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad hall in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Sajal Tamang. Of the 20 members present, 18 were from the Trinamool Congress and two from the BJP.All 20 members voted in favour of the no-confidence motion, resulting in its passage against Ahmed.
Additional District Magistrate Sajal Tamang said: "All 20 members voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.
The administration will take the necessary decision later, including whether an administrator will be appointed."
Zilla Parishad member Chaiti Barman Barua said the absence of the Sabhadhipati and Sahakari Sabhadhipati had disrupted various government activities at the Zilla Parishad. "As a result, a no-confidence motion was brought against them. The no-confidence motion against the Sabhadhipati was passed a few days ago. Today, the motion against the Sahakari Sabhadhipati was also passed," she said.
The Zilla Parishad has 34 seats. In the 2023 Panchayat elections, the erstwhile TMC won 32 seats and the BJP won two.
