Cooch Behar, Aug. 27 -- A two-day Ganga Aarti will be organised at two historic water bodies in Cooch Behar on August 30 and 31, with the initiative supported by the Cooch Behar district administration and Cooch Behar South MLA and Assembly Speaker Rathindranath Bose.
Priests who regularly perform Ganga Aarti in Haridwar will participate in the programme, which has generated enthusiasm among residents.
Special prayers will be offered at Bairagi Dighi, located in front of the historic Madan Mohan Temple, on August 29. The following day, priests from Haridwar will perform Ganga Aarti at the dighi. A grand Ganga Aarti will be held at the historic Sagar Dighi on August 31.
BJP district vice-president Biraj Bose said the programme was aimed at raising public awareness about Cooch Behar's historic water bodies and their preservation.
"Cooch Behar is a historic town of the Maharajas. Around 45 ponds were constructed here during the Maharaja's era. Work is underway to preserve and beautify these water bodies," he said.
