New Delhi,, Sept. 13 -- A Delhi Police constable has been removed from BRICS Summit 2026 security duty and faces departmental action after videos showing his guns and locations where he was deployed for security were widely circulated on social media.
The policeman, who was carrying a BRICS Summit ID card, had allegedly been uploading videos related to the event on an Instagram account for several days. Some of the videos showed his guns as well as locations where he was posted for security duty.
The videos were widely shared on social media, with netizens questioning why a policeman deployed for security at a high-profile international event would share such sensitive information online.
Delhi Police took cognisance of the matter after the videos surfaced. During the probe, officials learnt that the constable is posted in the force's Northwest district and had been temporarily deputed for BRICS security. Departmental action has been initiated against him, and officials said he would be suspended from duty.
According to senior police officials, the constable is posted with the Bangladeshi Cell, where personnel conduct raids and collect intelligence inputs and details about foreigners staying illegally in the city.
The constable had been deployed on temporary duty for BRICS security at and around five-star hotels and other key locations linked to the 18th BRICS Summit 2026, where foreign delegates and dignitaries are staying.
He has since been detached from BRICS duty and sent back to his parent unit in the Northwest district.
Authorities are examining the social media posts and videos, as well as the circumstances in which they were recorded and uploaded. They are also looking into whether the constable's actions amounted to a violation of security protocols or orders issued by senior police officials overseeing the summit.
The incident comes as Delhi remains on high alert for the BRICS Summit 2026, being held at Bharat Mandapam. Security agencies have put in place a tight security cordon around the venue, hotels and routes used by foreign delegates.
With several countries' dignitaries and heads of state expected to attend the summit, police personnel have been on heightened security duty for the past few weeks and have been instructed to maintain a low profile and remain discreet about their deployments.
The department will decide the punishment against the constable after completion of the departmental inquiry into the alleged violation.
