Raiganj, Oct. 26 -- Congress leaders from Islampur and Chopra in North Dinajpur district on Monday visited the bereaved family of Masud Alam (19), a migrant worker from Khalpara village in Daspara, Chopra, who was allegedly stabbed to death in Amritsar, Punjab. The leaders assured the family of financial assistance and legal support to
ensure justice.
According to sources, Masud had moved to Amritsar around three months ago to work as a bookbinder. On Friday, he reportedly had an altercation with one of his companions, following which he was stabbed to death. His body was brought to his residence at Khalpara on Saturday, plunging the family into grief.
A Congress delegation comprising Nausad Anjam, president of the Islampur minority Congress committee, and Firaja Begum, vice-president of the North Dinajpur Congress committee, met the family and assured them of all possible assistance.
Nausad Anjam said: "We condemn this killing. Our party will soon provide financial assistance to the victim's family.
We are also ready to extend legal support to help them secure justice. The BJP-led Central government has failed to protect migrant workers.
We will soon contact our Congress leaders in Punjab to pursue the matter."
