Kolkata, June 8 -- Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will, in the presence of senior officials from Amul, perform the groundbreaking (bhumi puja) ceremony for a mega dairy processing plant at the Sankrail Food Park in Howrah on June 13.

Amul is set to invest more than Rs 600 crore in establishing its first wholly owned mega dairy processing facility in the state. The integrated plant is expected to significantly boost dairy infrastructure and milk processing capacity in eastern India.

A key highlight of the project will be the world's largest curd manufacturing facility, which is planned as part of the integrated complex.

The investment is expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen the dairy value chain by providing greater market access to milk producers across the region.

According to Nabanna sources, the plant will have the capacity to produce a staggering 10 lakh kilograms of dahi, mishti doi, yogurt, lassi and buttermilk every single day.

"Two big industrial projects are coming up in Bengal. Amul is investing Rs 600 crore, while the Agricultural Marketing department is also coming up with a big project at Debra in West Midnapore close to the river.

Many industrialists are coming up and talking with our government, seeking land for their projects.

We are trying our best to identify land that suits their proposed project," said Agricultural Marketing minister Dilip Ghosh.

Adhikari on Saturday held a meeting with Amit Vyas, the head of the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers' Union (Amul Dairy) and Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), known for its brand Amul at Nabanna, where detailed discussions were held regarding the organisation's expansion in West Bengal, investment prospects, and the development of the dairy industry.

The Chief Minister recently held a meeting with SN Subrahmanyam, chairman and Managing Director of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), at the Kolkata Airport.

"During our 30-minute discussion, we focused extensively on the industrial resurgence of West Bengal. We exchanged ideas on creating a robust ecosystem for industrial development, attracting mega investments and accelerating economic growth to generate meaningful employment opportunities for the Youth of our State," Adhikari posted on his X handle after the meeting.
