New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday heard grievances of citizens from across the city at a public hearing at the Chief Minister's Janseva Sadan and directed officials to ensure prompt and time-bound resolution of their complaints.
"The government's doors must always remain open to the people. This is our working culture," Gupta said, stressing that citizens should be able to approach the government directly, have their concerns heard sensitively and should not be forced to make unnecessary rounds of government offices.
The grievances raised during the hearing included issues related to education, pending award money, waterlogging, sewerage, electrical safety, sanitation, illegal construction and unauthorised connections. Gupta directed the concerned officials to investigate the complaints and take necessary action according to the seriousness of each case.
She also instructed officials to prioritise complaints that had remained pending for a long time. Some citizens said they had approached departments earlier but their issues remained unresolved despite considerable delays. "The purpose of a public hearing is not merely to listen to citizens' complaints, but to take them through to a resolution," the Chief Minister said.
Gupta particularly stressed sensitive and prompt action in matters concerning the safety and education of students.
The hearing also saw women expressing enthusiasm over the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, under which the first instalment of Rs 2,500 was released to eligible women from September 1. Women who met the Chief Minister thanked her and described the scheme as an important step towards their economic empowerment. Some citizens also presented Gupta with Laddu Gopal idols they had prepared themselves and extended Janmashtami greetings to the Chief Minister.
