India, Aug. 8 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Saturday issued appointment letters to 187 newly appointed candidates, including 17 special educators, in a move aimed at strengthening its human resource base and improving civic services. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who attended the appointment letter distribution ceremony at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium at the Civic Centre as the chief guest, said filling long-pending vacancies was an important step towards making the civic body more effective. Gupta said the MCD was directly linked to the day-to-day civic needs of Delhi's residents and that adequate manpower was essential for delivering timely and efficient services. "The foremost objective of the responsibility you are about to undertake should be public service," she said, urging the newly appointed candidates to perform their duties with integrity, sensitivity and commitment. She also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand MCD hospitals through new buildings and additional blocks and improve their medical facilities. During the event, Gupta also launched a Medical Screening Portal aimed at facilitating medical examinations and regular health monitoring of children studying in MCD-run schools. The initiative is intended to make health monitoring more systematic and technology-driven. Mayor Pravesh Wahi, who was the guest of honour, said the appointment letters would bring "new hope, stability and confidence" to 187 families that had been waiting for employment opportunities. The Mayor added that the process for another 268 appointments was underway, while requisitions for 168 posts had been sent to the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB). The MCD also issued appointment letters to 92 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) candidates on compassionate grounds. Wahi said the appointments were intended to provide support and a dignified livelihood to families facing difficult circumstances. The scheme, launched on August 1, provides financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to eligible women, according to the Delhi government. Gupta described the response to the scheme as unprecedented, saying the number of registrations reflected the women's trust in the initiative to provide financial support and promote savings. As of Saturday afternoon, 5,14,460 women had registered under the scheme, while 2,18,728 applications had been finally submitted, according to data shared by the chief minister's office.
