New Delhi, April 15 -- GAIL (India) Limited on Wednesday signed contract agreements with TUSCO Limited to set up a 600 MW solar power project at a solar park in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, marking a major push towards renewable energy.

The agreements were signed by GAIL Executive Director (Sustainable Development & Renewables) Parivesh Chugh and TUSCO CEO Anil Tyagi in the presence of senior officials, including Director (Business Development) R K Singhal and representatives from THDC India Limited.

The project will be developed along with a 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and is primarily aimed at meeting the captive energy requirements of GAIL's petrochemical plant at Pata in Auraiya district. It will also support additional demand arising from electrification of gas-based equipment and upcoming compressed biogas plants in Uttar Pradesh.

Singhal said the project reflects GAIL's commitment to diversifying into low-carbon and sustainable energy solutions.
