Kolkata, Oct. 6 -- The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has uploaded revised vacancies for the recruitment of Assistant Teachers for classes IX-X under the 2nd State Level Selection Test (SLST), 2025, with 23,209 posts available across 13 subjects and seven mediums.
The revised list, uploaded on October 5 based on figures submitted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE), has reduced the vacancies by three from the 23,212 tentative posts against which the written examination was held.
Bengali medium accounts for the largest share with 19,948 vacancies, followed by Hindi with 2,249 and Urdu with 876.
Among subjects, Physical Science has the highest number of vacancies at 4,352, followed by Mathematics with 3,922 and Life Science with 3,910.
The revision follows a WBBSE review that detected 573 anomalies in the earlier vacancy list, including instances where male/female vacancies were shown as female vacancies. The Board subsequently submitted a revised statement covering subject, medium, gender and social category-wise vacancies. It said the revised figures had been prepared following the clarification issued by the Backward Classes Welfare department on August 7 and the applicable 100-point roster.
The August 7 clarification concerned the revised OBC reservation policy, under which the reservation was reduced from 17 percent to 7 percent.
The same revision had earlier affected the XI-XII assistant teacher recruitment process.
