Kolkata, Aug. 28 -- The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Friday stepped up its attack on the Bengal administration over the alleged assault and subsequent death of Abdul Hafiz's father, alleging no progress on its demands despite a 10-day deadline. The party sought a fair probe, a retired High Court judge-led inquiry and a school named after Hafiz's father.
CJP Co-Convenor Ashutosh Ranka had raised the demands 10 days ago and warned of further action if they were not addressed.
CJP said the organisation had also requested the Bankura District Magistrate to facilitate a meeting between a CJP delegation and the West Bengal Chief Secretary. However, the meeting has not yet taken place, with the DM citing the Chief Secretary's absence from Kolkata.
Following discussions with the Bankura DM, CJP decided to grant the administration an additional 10 days to act on its demands.
The organisation stressed that it remains committed to non-violence and constitutional methods, following the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar.
It also clarified that it does not support "bulldozer action" and said any action must remain within the law.
