Cooch Behar, Sept. 24 -- A civic volunteer posted at the Cooch Behar GR Court was arrested by Kotwali police on Wednesday evening for allegedly leaking sensitive information from the court, police sources said.
The arrested civic volunteer has been identified as Salim Rabbani, who had been working at the GR Court for a long time. Police picked him up from the court premises on Wednesday evening and took him to Kotwali Police Station for questioning.
Senior police officers, including Cooch Behar Superintendent of Police Manish Joshi and Additional Superintendent of Police Ricky Agarwal, reportedly questioned Rabbani. Following the interrogation, police registered a case against him on charges related to allegedly passing on information and arrested him.
Rabbani was produced before the Cooch Behar court on Thursday. The court remanded him to three days of police custody. Police sources said the investigation is underway to ascertain what information was allegedly leaked, to whom it was passed and whether others were involved.
Meanwhile, allegations of financial transactions involving Rabbani and several people have also emerged, according to sources. Police are examining transactions in his bank account as part of the investigation. Investigators are also probing whether Rabbani acted alone or was allegedly working on behalf of others. Police said further details are likely to emerge as the investigation progresses.
