Raipur, June 29 -- Consumers who have installed rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in Chhattisgarh are set to benefit from the buyback of surplus electricity exported to the grid, with the corresponding amount expected to be reflected in their upcoming power bills.

The Solar Energy Corporation of India has finalised the buyback rate for surplus solar power exported to the grid during the financial year 2025-26. The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) has initiated the process to adopt the rate and submitted it to the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC) for approval. Officials said that once the regulatory commission approves the rate, the value of surplus electricity supplied to the grid by consumers will be credited to their electricity accounts and adjusted in future bills.

According to the Deputy General Manager (Public Relations), electricity generated through rooftop solar systems is first used to meet the consumer's own monthly power consumption under the net metering system. Any excess power exported to the grid is recorded as surplus units in the consumer's account.

At the end of the financial year, these accumulated surplus units are purchased at the approved buyback rate. The corresponding monetary value is then credited to the consumer's account and adjusted against subsequent bills.

Officials clarified that with the beginning of every new financial year, the accounting of surplus units starts afresh. Therefore, surplus units from the previous year do not appear in the new bill as carried-forward units. However, their financial value remains protected and is adjusted in future bills according to the

prescribed rules.
