India, July 29 -- The Central government has taken several steps to bolster disaster preparedness and management in flood-hit Bihar and the states prone to disasters like heavy rains. The authorities have also been reviewing flood management mechanisms and issuing advisories and alerts to the states and Union Territories, besides the Nepal government, for preparedness. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai in his written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha said that the issues relating to flood management and riverine problems in both the countries are being addressed through the bilateral consultative mechanisms such as the Joint Team for Flood Forecasting (JTFF), Joint Committee on Kosi and Gandak Projects (JCKGP), the Joint Committee on Inundation and Flood Management (JCIFM) and Joint Committee on Water Resources (JCWR). "The government has laid appropriate flood emergency management plans for the Ganga basin and other flood prone areas with focus on evacuation including development of core evacuation routes, communication infrastructure and emergency response assets, etc, Nityanand Rai said.
