New Delhi, Sept. 4 -- Traffic movement in central, south and southwest Delhi is likely to be affected for four days from September 10 as the national capital prepares to host the two-day BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, officials said on Friday.
Nearly 4,800 traffic personnel have been deployed to manage the movement of foreign delegations and other dignitaries. Restrictions are expected to remain in force from the arrival of foreign delegates on September 10 until their departure around September 14, with diversions, congestion and temporary road closures likely on several key routes.
According to officials, vehicular movement could be affected on at least 22 arterial roads across central, south and southwest Delhi. Designated routes will be used by heads of state and foreign delegations, with traffic personnel deployed at strategic points to regulate their movement and regular traffic.
Traffic authorities have raised concerns over the Egyptian delegation staying at a hotel in Saket, where roads are already congested due to infrastructure and repair work.
The delegation's motorcade between Saket and central Delhi could add pressure to busy south Delhi stretches, particularly during peak hours. Police have suggested shifting the delegation to central Delhi.
Commuters have been advised to allow extra travel time and monitor traffic advisories.
