New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs and Punjab Police, on Saturday brought back wanted fugitive Amritpal Singh alias Gurpal Singh from Moldova to India.
Singh, who was issued an Interpol Red Notice, is wanted in several serious criminal cases registered in Punjab including double murder with arms, offence under Arms Act, NDPS Act.
His case sheet also includes charges of forgery, cheating, using forged documents and alleged violation of Passport Act, said the CBI.
The CBI, following a request from Punjab Police, facilitated the Red Notice against Singh through Interpol. The fugitive was tracked down and arrested by the Moldovan authorities.
Subsequently, CBI forwarded an extradition request to the Moldovan authorities. After the necessary legal formalities, the fugitive was sent back to India.
A four-member team from the Punjab Police was sent to Chisinau, Moldova, to bring the accused to India. After arriving in Delhi on Saturday, the team members and the accused will appear before the court.
