India, Aug. 25 -- A 71-year-old woman was killed and her husband critically injured after a car allegedly hit several vehicles and ran over the couple near Kailash Colony Metro Station in south Delhi's Greater Kailash-1 on Sunday, police said. The woman, Shashi, and her 65-year-old husband, Kulbhushan, were taken to Moolchand Hospital, where Shashi was declared dead. Kulbhushan was treated and later discharged to record his statement. Police said the accused, identified as 59-year-old Tapan Ahir, allegedly lost control of a Mahindra XEV 9e, hitting a Mahindra Thar, an autorickshaw and a cycle rickshaw before striking the couple. Ahir, a driver employed by the vehicle's owner since 1997, was reportedly on his way to pick up his brother from Kailash Colony Market. A case has been registered under sections 281, 125(a) and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police have sent Ahir's blood sample to the FSL to determine whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The exact sequence of events is being investigated.
