India, July 8 -- The Delhi government has reconstituted the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), filling positions that had remained vacant for nearly three years. The appointments were made on the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, according to an official statement issued on Monday. The Department of Women and Child Development notified the appointment of Om Prakash Vyas as the Chairperson of the commission. Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kanskar, Swati Gupta and Monika Sharma have been appointed as members. The reconstitution has been carried out under the provisions of the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008, and the relevant notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Each member, including the chairperson, will serve a three-year term, subject to the prescribed age limits. The maximum age is 65 years for the chairperson and 60 years for members. If an appointee reaches the age limit before completing the tenure, the term will end on that date. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said safeguarding children's rights and welfare remains a top priority for the Delhi government. She said every child deserves a safe and dignified childhood with equal opportunities, adding that strengthening the DCPCR is an important step towards ensuring effective protection of children's rights. The chief minister expressed confidence that the newly appointed leadership would function with sensitivity, transparency and accountability while working for the welfare of children. She also reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting children's interests and supporting their overall development through a stronger institutional framework.
