New Delhi, April 20 -- In a significant move to strengthen medical education and healthcare delivery, the Delhi government has proposed 108 postgraduate (PG), Diplomate of National Board (DNB), and Fellowship seats across 10 government medical and teaching institutions. The proposal, led by the Health Department, aims to create a larger pool of specialised doctors and improve patient care across the capital.

The initiative comes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Officials said the expansion is designed to strengthen both academic capacity and healthcare infrastructure in Delhi.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh described the move as a key step towards improving healthcare outcomes. He said, "The expansion of PG, DNB, and Fellowship seats is a significant step towards strengthening Delhi's healthcare ecosystem. These seats will help in training a robust pool of highly skilled and specialised doctors, ensuring better patient care and improved health outcomes for the citizens of Delhi."

According to the proposal, 67 seats have been earmarked for MD/MS programmes, 36 for DNB courses, and 5 for Fellowship programmes, ensuring a balanced expansion across different streams of medical specialisation.

Among institutions, Maulana Azad Medical College has been allocated 35 MD/MS seats, while Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College will receive 24 MD/MS seats. Indira Gandhi Medical College has been allotted 18 DNB seats, followed by Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital

with 8 DNB seats.

Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital has been allocated 2 DNB seats along with 3 Fellowship positions, while University College of Medical Sciences, in association with GTB Hospital, will receive 4 MD/MS seats.

Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital has been allotted 2 DNB seats, Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital 4 DNB seats, and Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital 2 DNB seats. Additionally, Delhi State Cancer Institute will receive 4 MD/MS seats along with 2 Fellowship positions.

Officials noted that this expansion is expected to significantly enhance advanced medical training capacity in Delhi and contribute to building a stronger, more resilient public healthcare system.
