Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- The Calcutta High Court on Monday refused to entertain an urgent plea of Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel, who is in custody in connection with an alleged rape case, and directed him to approach the court through a regular bail application.
Porel's lawyer sought an early hearing before Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya, pointing out that the police had already filed the chargesheet and that the cricketer had been arrested on the night of August 10-11.
The lawyer argued that Porel's arrest was linked to a limited purpose involving the seizure of electronic devices and said he had remained in custody since his arrest. He also submitted that the lower court had subsequently rejected his bail plea.
The judge, however, declined to entertain the matter on an urgent basis and asked Porel to file a bail petition before the High Court.
