New Delhi, Sept. 28 -- The Delhi poll body on Monday said booth-level officers (BLOs) will collect documents from the homes of voters issued notices over "discrepancies" during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The move aims to make the hearing process more convenient and reduce visits to electoral registration officer (ERO) and assistant ERO offices, an official statement said. BLOs will upload the documents on ECINet for the ERO's decision, and such electors will not be required to attend hearings.
Hearings will be held only in exceptional cases, preferably online, while an adult family member may attend on an elector's behalf.
The Election Commission has extended the deadline for claims and objections by a month to October 30, with disposal by November 30 and final rolls to be published on December 4.
The draft rolls contain over 97 lakh voters, while notices have been issued to more than 33 lakh over discrepancies. Special enrolment camps will also be held at educational institutions on September 29 and 30.
