Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- TMC MP Mahua Moitra faced an egg attack in Tehatta on Wednesday while leaving a party meeting, with the gathering raising "go back" slogans.
In a video, Moitra alleged that BJP office-bearers surrounded her meeting and pelted eggs at her. She said the faces of those involved were clearly visible and questioned whether police would register an FIR against "unknown persons".
The protesters were also heard shouting "Hindu Virodhi Mahua Dur Hato", while TMC supporters raised "Joy Bangla" slogans. The video showed police personnel at the spot, with Moitra asking them to clear the gathering.
Tehatta IC Supriya Ranjan Maji was heard saying: "Nobody informed me". Moitra later posted an SP letter stating that a nodal officer had been appointed for her visit and questioned how the IC could claim he was not informed.
Addressing Justice Dipankar Datta, Moitra recalled an observation during a Supreme Court hearing in August that freedom fighters had faced bullets while she was seeking relief over her security after an egg attack in Kaliganj.
Referring to the latest incident, she said: "I am officially both an MP in Independent India & a freedom fighter today!"
The incident comes days after the Calcutta High Court directed West Bengal Police to deploy two personnel with Moitra whenever she entered her Constituency for 30 days.
