Cooch Behar, May 24 -- A BJP worker was injured in a bomb blast allegedly targeting a BJP victory procession in the Chhota Naldhondara area under Gosanimari No. 2 Gram Panchayat in Dinhata on Sunday.
The injured worker, identified as Ranjit Kumar Barman, was admitted to Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The BJP alleged that the incident occurred when party workers and supporters had gathered in a field during a victory procession. According to the party, a bomb was allegedly hurled at the gathering, injuring Barman.
BJP Cooch Behar district general secretary Jeevesh Biswas claimed that Trinamool Congress workers were behind the attack.
"Our party workers and supporters were sitting in a field during the victory procession when Trinamool Congress workers allegedly targeted the gathering with a bomb. Ranjit Barman sustained injuries in the blast and was rushed to Dinhata Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment," Biswas said.
He further alleged that while BJP workers and supporters were peacefully present in the area, Trinamool Congress activists were attempting to create unrest. Biswas urged the police administration to take strict action against those responsible for the incident.
However, denying the allegations, Girindranath Barman, chairman of the Cooch Behar district Trinamool Congress, said he was not aware of the incident but rejected the BJP's claims.
"I am not aware of the matter, but the Trinamool Congress is not involved," he said.
Police are investigating the incident.
