Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- The state BJP has announced a new initiative to honour women across the state with the 'Nari Shakti Samman' during the upcoming Durga Puja and Kali
Puja festivals.
The state leadership, including BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, confirmed that official directives have already been sent to all district units across Bengal to execute this program at the grassroots level. The award aims to recognise and empower women who continue to struggle and make a difference despite facing heavy socio-economic hurdles. This primarily includes ordinary women from marginalised backgrounds, small-scale female entrepreneurs, meritorious female students, and scholars who lack adequate societal recognition or financial backing.
According to party sources, the honours will be conferred extensively during the auspicious periods of Durga Puja and Kali Puja. The primary objective is to acknowledge the resilience, struggle, and social contributions of everyday women who fight through adversity. Those women who are interested in participating in the programme will have to apply to their nearby Durga Puja committee, which will eventually be sent to the BJP local leaders. The party sources said that women belonging to economically privileged sections will not be allowed to participate in the programme.
