Kolkata, Oct. 2 -- Brain tumour treatment can often involve delicate and complex procedures. Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, however, offers a precise, non-invasive approach by focusing multiple beams of gamma radiation on a targeted area of the brain.

In a significant advancement in hospital treatment and infrastructure, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery was inaugurated at the Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata (I-NK) on Friday. BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, Narayan Swaroop Nigam, IAS, Health Secretary, Government of West Bengal, and Smita Pandey, IAS, Administrator, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, attended the inaugural ceremony at I-NK.

Bhattacharya said the addition of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery would be a crucial boost to the hospital's capabilities, particularly in treating complicated and life-threatening brain tumours and lesions.

According to him, the facility will benefit not only patients from Kolkata and West Bengal but also those from across eastern India seeking advanced neurosurgery and radiation therapy.

"This advanced technology will take treatment forward and make it more affordable. I hope more patients can benefit from this technology and return home after recovery," he said.
