New Delhi, Sept. 23 -- Following observance of BJP's organisational pattern, the party high command, on Wednesday, announced the new appointments in the position of state in-charges and co-in-charges for all states and Union Territories.
However, insiders call it common practice following the appointment of a new party president.
In anticipation of the crucial election year, the organisational set-up of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been realigned to prepare for the upcoming election battles, with some of the states that include Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka being some of those in which the Assembly elections have been scheduled in 2027.
Of the various organisational changes made by the BJP, one that is very notable is the appointment of Vinod Tawde as the Uttar Pradesh in-charge along with four co-in-charges who are Jagdish Patel, Medha Kulkarni, Pradeep Verma and Anant Ojha.
As Uttar Pradesh elects the largest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha, it will continue to be of great significance for the BJP's national politics and organisation.
The BJP has also put Smriti Irani in charge of Haryana and Chhattisgarh. As far as Punjab is concerned, Satish Poonia has been made in-charge, which will be supported by Virendra Sachdeva, who is the former BJP president of Delhi, along with Alka Gurjar. These decisions have been made amid preparations by the BJP in view of the 2027 election cycle in these states.
In West Bengal, Lal Singh Arya, Rajendra Singh and Pinky Kushwaha will be assisting Sunil Bansal, whereas in Telangana, Abhay Patil and Rekha Sharma have been made co-in-charges.
The appointment of Baijayant Jay Panda as Maharashtra in-charge, along with Amit Malviya, Sadanand Shet Tanawade and Kamaljeet Sehrawat as co-in-charges, marks yet another instance of combining leaders with diverse organisational and communication roles. Maharashtra continues to be an important state politically for the BJP and forms an essential part of its organisational network at the national level.
One such notable appointment has been that of Ram Madhav, who has been tasked with the responsibility of Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand, as per reports of the appointments.
While he will receive assistance in Uttarakhand from Arvind Menon and Bansuri Swaraj, Nirmal Kumar Surana and DK Aruna have been appointed as co-in-charges of Tamil Nadu. This follows the BJP's strategy to extend its organisational reach in South India, where the establishment of a booth-level organisational structure is an important long-term goal.
The party has also reorganised itself in Kerala, appointing M Nagaraj as the state in-charge, along with M Venkatesan as co-in-charge.
The party has also appointed K Surendran as in-charge in Puducherry, while Anil Antony has been made in-charge of Nagaland and co-in-charge of Goa.
Biplab Kumar Deb has been allotted Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Bhatia Rajasthan, Gajendra Patel Jharkhand and former UP Minister Shrikant Sharma Himachal Pradesh.
