Kolkata, July 27 -- The BJP on Monday organised 'Tiranga Yatras' in both North and South Kolkata, condemning what the ruling party described as "anti-national" slogans allegedly raised during a protest in the city on Friday.
Several BJP leaders, including Industry Minister Tapas Roy, Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul, Minister of State for the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Purnima Chakraborty, and several BJP MLAs participated in the processions along with party workers.
Agnimitra Paul alleged that Anti-national agenda, including the restoration of Article 370 in Kashmir, were being raised during the protests against NEET question leak.
She also said that the West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Act, 2026 had been enforced and those indulging in hooliganism would be booked under its provisions.
One rally began at Sealdah station and concluded at Esplanade, while the other started from Jadavpur and ended at Golpark. Both processions, organised by the BJP, saw party workers carrying the national flag and raising slogans against the alleged chants made during Friday's demonstration.
"If you disrespect the Prime Minister of the country and disrespect the national flag, we will not let it pass," state Industry Minister Tapas Roy said at the rally.
"There can be no compromise with the integrity of the country. We will defeat the designs of separatist forces at any cost. We will not tolerate any attempt to divide India," Roy added. Condemning the alleged attack on journalists at Esplanade on Friday, Minister of State for the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Purnima Chakraborty described the attackers as "anti-nationals" and said the country's laws and Constitution would never forgive such acts.
