Kolkata, July 9 -- The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has recorded the statement of Bikarna Naskar, the BJP MLA from Gosaba, as a witness in connection with the case related to the controversial comment of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee about playing DJ music.
The case traces back to the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections campaign, during which Banerjee allegedly made provocative remarks at a public rally. He reportedly stated that after the election results were announced, DJ music would be played so loud it would "deafen the ears."
Over his comment, a social activist of Baguiati filed a police complaint, claiming the comment was highly inflammatory and incited post-poll violence. The investigation was later handed over to the CID. Meanwhile, Naskar also had lodged a complaint against TMC leaders in the Gosaba area over an alleged attack on the BJP leaders and workers on their way back from the counting centre on the day of the election results. Naskar said: "After the results were announced, we were celebrating our victory while on our way back to Gosaba. While passing through the area where former TMC MLA Paresh Ram Das's office was located, we were attacked. Bricks were pelted. They tried to kill me. During the attack, they were shouting slogans: Abhishek Banerjee zindabad. It is the fallout of Banerjee's comment: DJ music will be played." Mpost
