Kolkata, Sept. 22 -- The Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC) on Tuesday condemned the reported incident involving Uttarpara BJP MLA Dipanjan Chakraborty, after his car allegedly hit a woman's scooty in Hooghly's Konnagar on Monday night.
According to reports, the incident took place around 8 pm on SC Chatterjee Street in Ward 6 of Konnagar Municipality. The MLA was reportedly inside the vehicle when it was being reversed and turned. The car, allegedly driven by his driver, hit a scooty, causing its 47-year-old rider, Supra Jana, to fall and sustain a head injury.
Jana was initially taken to a local hospital, where she reportedly received eight stitches. She was later shifted to a Kolkata hospital for further treatment. Chakraborty reportedly visited her at the hospital following the incident.
In a post on X, MAITC condemned the incident and questioned whether the BJP government would ensure action against its own MLA. The party also questioned whether the police would conduct a fair investigation and hold those responsible accountable. MAITC said that a woman being injured and hospitalised could not be dismissed as a minor matter because the accused was a BJP MLA. It also questioned whether political pressure could affect the investigation.
The party asked Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to ensure a proper investigation, accountability and justice in the case.
