Kolkata, June 21 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Debjit Sarkar highlighted several government schemes aimed at helping young entrepreneurs start businesses and industrial units, and encouraged students to explore entrepreneurship as a career option.
Speaking at a seminar on 'Past Glory, Current State and Future of Business and Industry in Bengal', Sarkar traced Bengal's rich 400-year-old industrial legacy and the contributions of its industrialists. He alleged that several hurdles under the erstwhile governments had impeded industrial growth in the state over the past few decades.
He underscored the importance of legal transparency, stable land policies and investor confidence for industrial development and spoke about the present government's focus on attracting industries to the state. The seminar was organised jointly by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, New Alipore College, the Heritage Study Centre and the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Jaydeep Sarangi, Principal of New Alipore College, reiterated the institution's commitment to nurturing future entrepreneurs capable of bringing innovative changes to society through problem-solving and enterprise.
Amartya Saha, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, said it was important for students to understand the scope of government assistance available for setting up start-ups and manufacturing units.
"Setting up new industries would mean the creation of more jobs for students graduating from college," he said.
