New Delhi, Sept. 10 -- Ending a prolonged administrative impasse, the BJP on Thursday formed a new board at the Tufanganj-I Panchayat Samiti, with Chiranjit Das taking charge as the new president. The board formation took place in the presence of senior BJP leaders.
Natabari MLA Girija Shankar Roy, BJP district president Abhijit Barman, Natabari Assembly Constituency in-charge Sanjay Chakraborty and Tufanganj Assembly Constituency in-charge Ujjwal Basak were among those present. The Panchayat Samiti, comprising 14 gram panchayats, had been facing administrative complications following the resignation of former president Jagadish Barman and vice-president Rajesh Tantri. It was alleged that the impasse had affected civic services and several development activities in the area. With the formation of the new board, party leaders expressed hope that development and public service activities would now regain momentum.
After assuming office, Chiranjit Das thanked the BJP's state and district leadership and said his priority would be to discharge the responsibility entrusted to him with dedication and work for the welfare of the people.
"My primary goal will be to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me with full dedication and work for the common people. Work will be done on the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'. The BJP government gives priority to development," he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP also formed the board at Kalchini Gram Panchayat under the Kalchini Assembly Constituency in Alipurduar district. Rinku Chhetri Lama was unanimously elected as the new Pradhan on Thursday. The Pradhan's post had fallen vacant following the recent resignation of the Trinamool Congress incumbent. After the board formation, BJP workers and supporters celebrated by taking out a procession through Kalchini.
BJP leaders said the new board would focus on development and take steps to address various problems faced by local residents.
