Kolkata, Sept. 24 -- A businessman from Beniapukur was allegedly duped of Rs 26 lakh by cyber criminals on the pretext of share trading investment. Though he recovered Rs 6 lakh after an FIR was registered, the fraudsters siphoned off the remaining amount.

The businessman responded to a share trading advertisement on media two years ago and was added to a WhatsApp group. Two accused, Akshat and Avinash, allegedly convinced him to download a fake trading app. After investing Rs 50,000 and receiving returns, he invested Rs 20 lakh.

The accused demanded another Rs 23 lakh and threatened him using a SEBI letter. The businessman borrowed money and invested. When he tried to sell his shares, the accused demanded a 20 per cent commission.
