Kolkata, Oct. 11 -- A team from the Kolkata Police on Sunday served a fresh interrogation notice to the MAITC national general secretary and MP of Diamond Harbour Abhishek Banerjee, directing him to appear for questioning on Monday morning.

According to sources, officers from the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station delivered the notice at Banerjee's Kalighat residence on Sunday. The summon relates to an ongoing investigation into a scuffle that occurred at his Camac Street office on August 27, where political supporters allegedly assaulted civic and police officials.

Earlier attempts to serve the notice on October 7 and October 8 failed because the Diamond Harbour MP was in Delhi attending political protests.

The case stems from an incident where Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) personnel, accompanied by police, were blocked and harassed by TMC supporters while attempting to dismantle an unauthorised political billboard on the roof of the building where Banerjee's office is situated. Three separate FIRs were registered following the clash, with Banerjee named as an accused in two of them.

While investigators previously questioned senior TMC leaders regarding the incident, police stated that further interrogation is necessary to conclude the inquiry. Till last reports came in, party representatives had not released an official statement regarding the issue.
