Kolkata, Sept. 14 -- Bidhannagar Police on Monday warned hotel and lodge operators against allowing illegal activities such as prostitution and unauthorised call centre operations on their premises, directing them to strictly follow licensing and guest-verification rules under the Sarai Act, 1867.
The warning was issued at a coordination meeting with hotel and lodge owners at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Salt Lake, chaired by Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Rathod Amit Kumar Bharat.
Police asked operators to regularise their registrations, renew operating licences on time and comply with fire-safety standards. They were also instructed to follow prescribed check-in and check-out procedures, maintain guest records in Form II and properly fill up Form III when foreign nationals stay at their establishments.
Police warned that activities such as prostitution and unauthorised call centre operations from hotels and lodges would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The meeting was attended by senior police officers, the Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Officer and officials from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the state Intelligence Branch, civic authorities, the fire department and power utilities.
