Kolkata, April 16 -- Under a new arrangement, voters in Bhangar Assembly Constituency in South 24-Parganas will see two EVMs placed side by side in each polling booth during the upcoming Bengal Assembly elections.

The Election Commission has taken this step as Bhangar is the only one among 294 constituencies, where the number of candidates has exceeded the capacity of a single ballot unit.

With 19 candidates in the fray, including seven from recognised parties and 12 Independents, a standard EVM was insufficient to accommodate all names. As a result, one unit will display 15 candidates while the second will carry the remaining three along with the NOTA option. The EC has also reviewed booth space arrangements to ensure smooth voter movement. See P2
