Kolkata, Oct. 11 -- Following Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's announcement that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will be implemented in Bengal within six months, the state-level committee headed by Justice Ranjana Desai will hold its first meeting at Writers' Buildings on Monday.
The committee had earlier held a meeting at Banga Bhavan in Delhi last month. With Writers' Buildings under renovation since 2013, when the Trinamool government shifted the secretariat to Nabanna, this is going to be the first major meeting at Writers' Buildings since the BJP government came to power.
The committee is likely to focus on the provisions in existing family laws and how to erase non-uniform norms. For the meeting, the conference room of the 250-year-old secretariat has been kept ready.
