Kolkata, July 30 -- Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday expressed confidence that the West Bengal Police, one of the country's oldest police forces, has the capability to emerge as the nation's best despite facing several constraints, while addressing personnel at the Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy in Barrackpore.
The Chief Minister was attending the annual "Bada Khana" at the police academy where he praised police personnel for maintaining law and order and taking action against corruption under challenging circumstances.
Adhikari, who also holds the Home portfolio, assured officers and personnel of his government's full support.
"You work under many challenges. From tackling corruption to maintaining law and order, you have demonstrated your professionalism. We have certain limitations and financial liabilities. But you can become the best force in the country. I have full faith that you can achieve it," Adhikari told the gathering.
He stressed that resource constraints should not become an obstacle to professional excellence and urged police personnel to continue serving with discipline, integrity and dedication to strengthen public confidence in the force.
The Chief Minister was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour before joining senior officers, constables and civic volunteers for lunch. The programme also included the felicitation of police personnel from the 2022 passing-out batch in recognition of their service.
Adhikari said the state police had performed creditably in maintaining public order and reiterated that his government stood firmly behind the force. He assured personnel that their concerns and operational challenges would receive due attention from the government.
The annual "Bada Khana" is one of the oldest traditions of the West Bengal Police, bringing together officers and personnel of all ranks for a shared meal symbolising unity and esprit de corps. Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta, along with other senior police officers, attended the programme.
After the formal event, the Chief Minister shared lunch with police personnel, interacting with them in an informal setting and reaffirming his government's commitment to further strengthening the state's policing system.
